Test / Grade results for this week

I got my tests back from Friday- I made a 98 1/3 on my Finance test, and a 99 on my Algebra test (missed a sign...); got my self introduction presentation grade back, and even though I went six minutes OVER the time limit (baptists...)- I STILL (by the grace of God!!) made the highest B!! PTL!! Everything else was "perfect" except for one thing and I got one pt taken off for that. ~whew~ I tell ya! I was sweating that grade big time!

I woke up this morning with great pain in my left wrist / thumb joint. So bad I made Jay find my arm / wrist splint and I wore that all day. Not sure what's going on but boy does it hurt when I move it "just so".

I can't think of anything else right now, my head's hurting :( Oh I did start a new blog "
Pink Power" for MK, and I made a couple new graphics-

Not so sure about the blinkie but it'll do, don't ya think? That's what I'll have up here if there's anything going on at Pink Power ;o)

Don't step on the ducks!!

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven.

When they get there, St. Peter says, "We only have one rule here in heaven: don't step on the ducks!"

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one.

Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ! ever saw.

St. Peter chains them together and says, "Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!"

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn't miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps.

She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, long eyelashes, muscular, and thin.

St. Peter chains them together without saying a word.

The happy woman says, "I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?"

The guy says,
"I don't know about you, but I stepped on a duck!"

*::::::Daddy's Poem:::::*

*::::::Daddy's Poem:::::*

Her hair was up in a pony tail,
her favorite dress tied with a bow.
Today was Daddy's Day at school,
and she couldn't wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her,
that she probably should stay home.
Why the kids might not understand,
if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid;
she knew just what to say.
What to tell her classmates
of why he wasn't there today.

But still her mother worried,
for her to face this day alone.
And that was why once again,
she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school
eager to tell them all.
About a dad she never sees
a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back,
for everyone to meet.
Children squirming impatiently,
anxious in their seats

One by one the teacher called
a student from the class.
to introduce their daddy,
as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name,
every child turned to stare.
Each of them was searching,
for a man who wasn't there.

"Where's her daddy at?"
she heard a boy call out.

"She probably doesn't have one,"
another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back,
she heard a daddy say,
"Looks like another deadbeat dad,
too busy to waste his day."

The words did not offend her,
as she smiled up at her Mom.
And looked back at her teacher,
who told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back,
slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child,
came words incredibly unique.

"My Daddy couldn't be here,
because he lives so far away.
But I know he wishes he could be,
since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him,
I wanted you to know.
All about my daddy,
and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories
he taught me to ride my bike.
He surprised me with pink roses,
and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes,
and ice cream in a cone.
And though you cannot see him.
I'm not standing here alone.
"Cause my daddy's always with me,
even though we are apart
I know because he told me,
he'll forever be in my heart"

With that, her little hand reached up,
and lay across her chest.
Feeling her own heartbeat,
beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere here in the crowd of dads,
her mother stood in tears.
Proudly watching her daughter,
who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love
of a man not in her life.
Doing what was best for her,
doing what was right.

And when she dropped her hand back down,
staring straight into the crowd.
She finished with a voice so soft,
but its message clear and loud.

"I love my daddy very much,
he's my shining star.
And if he could, he'd be here,
but heaven's just too far ...

But sometimes when I close my eyes,
it's like he never went away."
And then she closed her eyes,
and saw him there that day.

And to her mothers amazement,
she witnessed with surprise.
A room full of daddies and children,
all starting to close their eyes.

Who knows what they saw before them,
who knows what they felt inside.
Perhaps for merely a second,
they saw him at her side.

"I know you're with me Daddy,"
to the silence she called out.

And what happened next made believers,
of those once filled with doubt.

Not one in that room could explain it,
for each of their eyes had been closed.

But there on the desk beside her,
was a fragrant long-stemmed pink rose.

And a child was blessed, if only for a moment,
by the love of her shining star.

And given the gift of believing,
that heaven is never too far.

It could have been here ...

I'm just thinking aloud here, but, part of the reason the President vowed war against terrorism, by being in Iraq ('better there than here'), was to keep the attacks away from our soil. Right? So when I see articles like this, I wonder if the fact, that we are NOT being attacked, on our soil, now, could be, that- the President's plan *is working* at least to a degree?

Al-Qaida Threatens More Saudi Attacks

By DONNA ABU NASR
Associated Press Writer

A statement appeared on a militant Web site saying that Friday's attack was "part of a series of operations that al-Qaida is carrying out against the crusaders and the Jews to stop their plundering of Muslim wealth." It was signed "al-Qaida in the Arab Peninsula" - the name of the Saudi branch of the terror network.

The statement did not acknowledge that the attack was foiled. In fact, it claimed that the two "heroic holy warriors" managed to enter Abqaiq.

"There are more like them who are racing toward martyrdom and eager to fight the enemies of god, the Jews, the crusaders and their stooges, the renegade rulers" of Arab countries, the posting said.

"You will see things that will make you happy, god willing," concluded the statement.

Al-Qaida had long threatened to attack Saudi Arabia's oil plants, but Friday was the first time it actually attempted to do so. Previously militants linked to al-Qaida had killed foreigners working in the industry, but not at oil facilities. ---

Al-Qaida is led by the Saudi-born Osama bin Laden, who has long sought to replace the Saudi monarchy with an Islamic government, accusing the royal family of selling out to American "infidels." In late 2004, bin Laden released a video in which he called for attacks on oil facilities to hurt the West. ---

The militants launched a campaign in 2003 to overthrow the U.S.-allied royal family.

"In Washington's God: Religion, Liberty, and the Father of Our Country"

has anyone read this book? If so what did you think about it?

Point to Ponder- re: Minimum Wage

It has been mentioned that increasing the federal minimum wage would increase low income workers purchasing power. I can see this, and it would probably help the economy as a result. I've read that Congress is working on raising minimum wage by $1.50 over the next few years.

However, Opponents of this say an increase in minimum wage will force some employers to let people go, because they will not be able to afford the wage increase.

Do you believe the overall economical benefit of increase minimum wage will outweigh temporary cutbacks in jobs for smaller businesses?

Americans Engage in Unhealthy Behaviors to Manage Stress

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Americans deal with stress in ways that can damage their mind/body health, according to a new national survey on stress conducted by the American Psychological Association (APA) in partnership with the National Women's Health Resource Center and iVillage.com.

The survey shows a high number of health complications related to stress, implicating stress as a major U.S. health problem. According to the survey, those experiencing stress are more likely to report hypertension, anxiety or depression and obesity. In particular, women report higher levels of stress than men, and are more likely to feel the effects of stress on their physical health, putting them at greater health risk.

Adults who experience chronic stress rate their mental and physical health lower than adults who are not experiencing stress. People experiencing stress are more likely to report fatigue, inability to sleep, headaches and muscular tension, among other symptoms.

According to the survey, one in four Americans turns to food to help alleviate stress or deal with problems. Comfort eaters report higher levels of stress than average and are more likely to experience health problems like hypertension, high cholesterol and obesity. Additionally, people who are "very concerned" about their stress are more likely to be smokers and exercise less.

"The key is how effectively people deal with and manage stress. People who turn to comfort food or smoking are starting a vicious cycle. Their attempts to reduce stress can actually lead to health problems that result in increased stress," says Russ Newman, PhD, JD, executive director for professional practice, APA.

Most often, stress is caused by concerns about work and money, followed by personal and family health and children. Overall, health care decision makers for the family experience the most stress and women identify with this role more often than men.

"As the health managers of their families, women disproportionately feel the effects of stress. From taking care of children to serving as the caregivers for elderly parents, the survey found that women report more stressors and greater concern for the effects that stress has on their daily lives," said Elizabeth Battaglino Cahill, executive director of the National Women's Health Resource Center.

Kellie Gould, editor-in-chief of iVillage.com, said, "Consistent with the survey findings, we hear from the women who visit our site that they are under a great deal of stress and shoulder the majority of responsibility for caretaking."

I just received this email, and while it's not majoly different from a lot of the stories you hear from Directors, what struck me was the conditions she worked this in ...--

Question to ponder ...

from some's POV-
"Why is it only greedy to keep what you have but not for people to take from others what they think they deserve?"

Tuesday, February 21, 2006

Two zeros in one week!

When I was absent last Wednesday and Thursday, I missed a quiz in one class, and a test in another (didn't realize there was one, but low and behold, it was in the syllabus). The quiz I missed is cancelled out by my two 100's on other quizzes; and in the other class she drops the lowest two test grades. That still stinks cause it was a test on WINDOWS. Pulease! I was hoping to drop a real-bad grade, like for stuff I really didn't know about and all!!

Friends I'm really needing some prayer now. I've let some things unravel and now I'm trying to pick up the pieces No my world is not crumbling down, but I'm wearing down a bit mentally and I need to be lifted up. I'd appreciate it.

I made some siggies last night-

(this tag come to me premade so I just added the text to this one using the splat smiley tutorial)-

Tired, going to bed. Oh, and I updated the "Getting to know me " post- check it out!

Monday, February 20, 2006

Yep, I needed to hear that!!

My sweet little boy got a dirtbike for Christmas. Lately, though not having a significant amount of practice in riding his bike, he has gotten rather adventurous. He has tried twice to start at the top of our sidewalk, and ride down the two spaced steps down it to where the parking lot starts ("bump" ... go two feet ... "bump" ... go two more feet ... "bump" - in the lot).

He has been outside for a while now, so I stepped out to check on him. He's about to try his new stunt, so I instrictly say "Don't you run into my car now...", he successfully gets into the parking lot and I say "Well look at you big boy!" and he says as he;s riding off ....

"Oh mom .." (I say yes, and he says-) "You know, it's not YOUR car. It's God's car. He's the one who made it- you didn't"

Thanks for the reminder, son.

Gotta Bloggit- Kellie Pickler

Albemarle waitress makes the cut on 'Idol'
Four N.C. contestants make Top 24
MARK WASHBURNTV/Radio Writer

"American Idol" reached into familiar territory Wednesday, bringing four Carolinians into the finals.

Kellie Pickler of Albemarle, Heather Cox of Jonesville, Bucky Covington of Rockingham, and Chris Daughtry of McLeansville joined the final 24 singers who will compete this year.

Other Carolinians who have made the cut include 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken of Raleigh, 2004 winner Fantasia Barrino of Charlotte and Sarah Mather of Charlotte, eliminated in 2005.

Pickler, 19, an Albemarle roller-skate waitress, wowed the judges in the Greensboro auditions with "Since U Been Gone" and faced the judges on Wednesday night's show for a thumbs up or down on making the final cut.

Her blond hair falling across her face, Pickler walked the length of a Pasadena ballroom and sat down in front of the judges, bracing for the worst.
Paula Abdul broke the news. "We'll be seeing you," she said with a wink. "You made it through."

Pickler buried her head in her hands and wept. Then regaining composure, she had a cosmetics moment, blurting out that she'd bought waterproof mascara after the Greensboro audition.

"Is it working?" she asked. It was.

"American Idol" on Fox is TV's No. 1 show. Tuesday night's show got nearly three times the rating in Charlotte as the Winter Olympics on NBC.

Pickler's twang-plucky voice made her a favorite of the judges and her hard-scrabble background made her a favorite of "Idol" producers in Greensboro.

Pickler explained to them that she lives with her grandfather, Clyde Pickler, because her mother left when she was 2. Her father has been imprisoned much of her life on a variety of charges ranging from assault to robbery.

Pickler was exposed to Charlotte audiences last year in "Gimme the Mike! Charlotte" on WSOC (Channel 9) in which she advanced to the finals but didn't win.

Other Carolinians got cut in the earlier Hollywood rounds.

Gotta bloggit- Mandisa

I just found an article that records what happened with Mandisa this week (emphasis mine):

In a confrontation that had been promoted in previews, Mandisa Hundley talks to Simon about his comments after her first audition. Mandisa says “Well, you didn’t need a bigger stage but you could have got a bigger chair. Simon, a lot of people want me to say a lot of things to you, but this is what I want to say to you.

It’s that yes, you hurt me, and I cried, and it was painful, it really was, but I want you to know that I’ve forgiven you, and that you don’t need somebody to apologize in order to forgive somebody, and I figure that if Jesus could die so that all of my wrongs could be forgiven, I can certainly extend that same grace to you so I just wanted you to know.” Simon replies “Mandisa, I’m humbled, come here give me a kiss.”

However, the two never actually kiss, but just share a hug instead. After letting Mandisa know that she has made it to the final 24, Simon and Mandisa hug again. Simon claims that “we’re sort of dating,” but Mandisa responds “you’re not my type.” As Mandisa walks away, Simon finally says “I do apologize.”

I'm such a weenie. I'm not sure why that scene has had such an emotional effect on me. The courage it took her to say that ... but how freeing at the same time!! What a mighty work of the holy spirit in her life!! Come to find out she is a popular gospel singer. I can't wait to see her again.

Whatta week

I thought I might have accidentally got a job last week, but turns out not. My neice is a waitress at a nearby locally owned restraurant. She left me a voicemail while I was in school last Friday saying that they were really needing help, would I please come help her, lol I have not waited on tables in 13 years!! But immediately my spirit said "Yes", so mom said she'd watch the kids til Jay got home.

All in all it went pretty well. 90% of my customers were regulars who loved B (my neice) and were happy to have "the next best thing" LOL!!! They started seating me at 5 and I was waiting on my last tables at 8, and I made $31, not including the $10 (total) for the hourly wage. Not bad!!

I thought it was interesting after it occured to me when I got home I had just said Thursday I needed a refill for my med, and the Lord sent me the opportunity to earn the $30 co payment it would cost!! :O)

I went back and worked Saturday, and then Tuesday. B told me tonight they hired two full time servers at the restaurant, said they didn't need me to come in tomorrow night :( She said they REALLY want to hire me, but they're wanting to only hire FT people and I can't work during the day :o/ But one of the new girls "can't" work saturday nights so I told B that would be an ideal thing. Then she said in a few weeks there will be a hostess position open, we could probably work a Thurs-Fri & Sat night deal, that's like $10 an hour, so not too bad. About the same as serving, but guaranteed. Maybe the Lord is throwing me a bone? ;o)

So what do y'all think of this year's American Idol? I'm pathetic. I was a nervous wreck last night. Cried three times. Kellie is from Albemarle, this TINY town Jay and I lived in not long after we got together. He was transferred there for his job. It makes my skin crawl to know just how small that town is, the nearest "city" at least thirty minutes away ... to know the humble "down home" town she grew up in ... ::::snnifff::::: Oh that girl tore me up!!!!

Then Mandisa went and said what she did last night! WHOA!! Please tell me someone saw that beside me!!

Getting to know me

This is gonna turn into my "novel of moi". I need a good title for this, got any ideas?
I'm going to start with seven ....

1) Have your kids had the chicken pox?
Neither of mine have had chicken pox as of yet. Both have had the vaccine, though. I'm waiting to see how Jackson is going to do today. I feel so bad for him. He's like a radiator!

2) Did you go on a honeymoon? Where? Tell us about it.
My dad paid for our honeymoon. We went to Banner Elk, and stayed in dad's timeshare he has up there. We fished every day in the lake (pic's in that last link). It was awesome because it would be between 72-78oF during the day, then get between 40-50s at night. There's gas logs in the units so we had the best of both worlds, in July!!

3) If you could tour one country all expenses paid, where would you go?
Italy, hands down. If I believed in former lives, I would have to say I was Italian, LOL I love everything about that country as far as the food, land, etc. In Italy they stop in the middle of the day, like whole towns, to take a nap. That's my kind of place!!

4) What is your life verse and why?
Proverbs 3:5-6, self explanatory ;o)

5) What kind of car do you drive? What is your dream car?
I drive a white 2004 Pontiac Grand am, my dream car is a brand new pink Cadillac :p

6) If you work outside the home, what do you do, and do you like it? If you don't, what job would you like if you decided to/had to go to work?
I work in and out- I have a Mary Kay business!

7) What does your family do to celebrate Easter?
Church, dinner, ressurection cookies and biscuits ..

8) Are you naturally a morning person, or do you need "special conditions" to be able to function in the morningtime?
Yes, I require special conditions- an early bedtime, an early wakeup (having the ability to kick around a bit before I have to get ready...) and a good cup of coffee! Otherwise it's just not natural, lol I used to have to be at work at 6am every morning, it was nothing for me to hop out of bed around 4, shower, primp, and be all cheery and such BY 6!

9) Which way do you hang your toilet paper?

I don't, too lazy, lol is that bad? I don't even know where the spindle is :p

10) Do you remember where you were when the space Shuttle Challenger blew up in 1986?

Yes, I do. I was in 5th grade, they had brought a TV into our classroom so we could watch :o( That pretty much turned me off of any hope for a space fascination, really.

11) If money were no object, where would you go on your dream vacation? (I want details--time of year, weather, activities, etc.)

(copied form a previous post-) Italy, hands down. If I believed in former lives, I would have to say I was Italian, LOL I love everything about that country as far as the food, land, etc. In Italy they stop in the middle of the day, like whole towns, to take a nap. That's my kind of place!!

As for what we would do- I would want to go during harvest time and participate in the wine making process; I would want the weather to be fall'ish, I would want to visit the local restaurants, family and gourmet, and follow the chef's around and pick at their brains (hey, money's no object, I could buy that, couldn't I? ;o)

11) When did you first know there was a God?

Wow, what a great question. I truly understood there was a God when I was 14. I knew 'about' God while I was younger, but the understanding was not there. I believed when I was 21.

12) Have you checked out Kingston Christian Fellowship's new website yet?? ;o) (www.kcfellowship.ca)

Well, at the time this question was posed, No ;-) But I have now!

13) Up to this point what has been the best day of your life?

(copied from another post-) The day I witnessed Jackson being born again. That was priceless. I would dare say that seeing that happen was better than receiving my own salvation, but it is because of my own salvation and relationship with the Lord, that made that event as precious as it was- because I did have a clue. When I got saved I didn't have a clue as to what life would be like, but seeing him get saved, I knew that his life was going to be better than mine was growing up.

14) How to you talk to others to share Christ with them, if they are non saved?

I talk about him whether they're saved or not ;-) My conversation is pretty much a testimony, be it expressing thankfulness for 'whatever' (weather, that I didn't fall on that step, test grades, lol etc). It took me a while to be comfortable with the level of spirituality in my conversation, but the verse "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31) really grabbed a hold of my heart and he would not leave me alone until I started speaking.

I guess he knows me well enough to know that one thing I do-do well is talk to people, and talking is something I do, therefore my conversation should be "to the glory of God". At first I was afraid people would cast me off as "religious", but I've found the opposite (imagine that, lol). I believe there has to be a level of tact, humility, and respect bundled into one when doing this, especially when you don't really KNOW who you're talking to, if that makes sense.

All this to say, my life is an open book with his praises coming off on every page. People tend to bring the spiritual side up them selves; so if they wanna talk, they know I'm all ears. Now, I do invite people to church, and to MK meetings (some meetings are quite spiritual depending on who's speaking- MK's philosophy is God first, family second, career third, and that is alays mentioned when guests are present. Which gives me another way to talk about the Lord- when I talk about MK to people ;-)

Chicken Pox?

When I picked Jackson up this afternoon he immediately started saying how his head was hurting. He was quiet all the way home, with our car pool friends in the car. Usually I can't get him to settle down on the 11 mile ride back from school. Then after we dropped the boys off, and run back to mom's to pick up some stuff, I looked back at him and his color was completely drained. Being a orange haired, fair skinned, blue eyed-child as it is, it doesn't take much, ya know. I felt him when we got to moms and no doubt there was a fever. He was allll quiiieeettt. Not like him at all.

I then called his teacher to let her know and she said at lunch he was complaining with his head hurting which she thought was odd, but there have been a ouple different viruses that has been making their rounds around school the past few weeks. I called her because we have a sibling of a classmate who has a rare heart condition and is immune-compromised. Our teacher stays in contact with the boys' parents with what is going on health-wise in the class so they'll be "extra-informed". Not to mention I wanted to get an idea of what work he could do at home while he was out.

It got to be bedtime and he started winding down after playing with Hannah and his new friend LousMarina (sp?) at the laundromat, and the body aches started. Well, I say body aches, he weathers fevers like I do, and it feels like death to me! There's nothing that is right when I run a fever, he's the same way.

Then I thought about my cousin's dd who just returned to school from having
chicken pox. They go to the same school, and are in children's choir together. To say the least they're around each other enough for me to conclude it would be safe to say he was exposed to her when she was contaigous. Uhg. I guess better now than ever, huh?

Does anyone have any good tips on how to help him get through this as painless as possible? poor little guy. I always feel bad when he runs a fever because he is so polite, kind, obedient, loving, and I enjoy it ... and then I feel bad like I'm enjoying him being sick or something!

Catching up on Laundry; Ebay

Laundry has to be my most dreaded chore of all. I have the hardest time keeping up with it. I am hoping since we're getting into more solid routines now that I'll gain the ability to stay diligent with laundry. But for now, I'm behind.

I went to a new laundromat today called "Laundra Bright". It's a really neat system they have there. They have these HUGE washers along with smaller ones. A 2 load, a 4 load, and the huge one is a 5/6 load. I had a regular sized storage tote overflowing with Jackson's clothes that I put in the 5/6 load machine, and an overflowing round basket of Hannah's clothes that went into the 4 load washer. I literally done what would have equivalated to an easy 6 loads, packed in the washer today in the same time as one wash / dry cycle! and I still have a hallway full of clothes to go! LOL! But all that today for the bargain price of $11. Can't beat it.

I'm thinking of opening up a Ebay store. I have tried to find consignment shops that I liked the clothes that would do trades and have been unsuccessful. I figure Ebay would be a good option to sell our gently used items. What do you think? Any Ebay'ers out there?

"The Mischevious Brothers"

Two little boys, ages 8 and 10, are excessively mischievous. They are always getting into trouble and their parents know all about it. If any mischief occurs in their town, the two boys are probably involved.

The boys' mother heard that a preacher in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The preacher agreed, but he asked to see them individually. So the mother sent the 8 year old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the preacher in the afternoon.

The preacher, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, "Do you know where God is, son?" The boy's mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open. So the preacher repeated the question in an even sterner tone, "Where is God?!"

Again, the boy made no attempt to answer. The preacher raised his voice even more and shook his finger in the boy's face and bellowed, "Where is God?!" The boy screamed and bolted from the room, ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, "what happened?" The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied, "We are in BIG trouble this time.

GOD is missing,
and they think we did it!

The sweetest gift I have ever received

This question was asked on one of my boards today, and thought it was worth a repeat here :)

The sweetest gift I've ever received would be ..... being able to witness Jackson being born again.

How about you?
